Texas Backyard Wildlife | Ringtail eating a wasp: We like our food hot here in Texas @TexasBackyardWildlife | Uploaded July 2021 | Updated October 2024, 1 day ago.
A ringtail snoozing in one of the bird boxes was disturbed by a wasp. The ringtail took care of the intruder in a very ringtail-y way. She ate it.
In the narration we identify the wasp as a yellowjacket but one of our commenters, Whistles to Animals, has set us right. It's a female paper wasp and her sting, Whistles tells us, is even more painful than a yellowjacket's.
We cringe every time we watch this video - a wasp sting hurts like crazy - but to the ringtail, this critter was just a spicy lunch on the wing.
