RING OF PROXIMITY.
Every martial art lives inside of what I like to call a “ring” of proximity.
Projectile-range, Striking-range, Clinch-range, and Ground-range are broad categories, each with their own sub-categories, systems and subsystems.
Most systems specialize in one “ring” and borrow from others, allowing them to dabble just inside or just outside their primary focus.
The most consequential mistakes happen when practitioners mistake their preferred range for the one-solution-to-all-problems model.
In the end, tactics and techniques are appropriately dictated by proximity.
