Here’s one of the easiest classic tricks that never ceases to amaze!
Equipment: chain, metal ring.
Hold a chain in one hand and a metal ring in the other. Pass the chain through the ring so the ring is perpendicular to the chain. Drop the ring. The chain will catch the ring at the end of its fall.
To complete the experiment successfully, the ring must rotate around its diameter as it falls. This rotation will allow the ring to fall through the chain and form a loop as it moves along it. Ultimately, this results in a simple loop of the chain around itself. To make sure the ring rotates, hold it so that one edge is resting on your thumb and the other is between your forefinger and middle finger. Pull your thumb away to drop the ring in such a way that it will start to spin. Keep in mind that the ring must be heavier than the chain – otherwise, it won't work.
