"It's like I told you, honey."

For Week Four of Liv's Inspiration Challenge. I wanted an excuse to edit with this overused song and she gave to me. Everyone go participate if you can!

I think I forgot how much work it is to edit a full length video! It was so much work, but I'm proud of the result and excited to share with everyone.


This is mostly from Rin's point of view, though there is a POV change in the last chorus. I gravitate toward Rin for some reason, although I think my personality is more similar to Haru's. This song was Rin's song, and I wasn't expecting Haru to steal it at the end, but he does.

I focused hard on matching the pronouns, so I hope the storyline is easy to follow. I wanted to focus on Rin's perception of his relationship with Haru, as friends, rivals, swimmers . . . The first part is angsty and angry, with Rin brooding over his "win" the first time he raced Haru after getting back to Japan. It wasn't what he expected and he wants something else out of his future victory, a sense of pride and satisfaction that he feels he deserves -- that Haru is keeping from him.

The second verse was what made me edit almost the entire song -- I wanted to show something different in what is otherwise a sad, angsty song. Rin being an egotistical jerk. He looks back on his time his former team as a disgrace, a joke. He was just settling for hanging out with them because he had nothing better to do, didn't know any better. And now, back from Australia and finding his match in a new swim team, Rin has found where he belongs. And he looks down on Haru for wasting his potential.

NOTES:
I figure there might be some protest of the "let's go get high" line. I wanted to include it, and I feel like it's not too much to think Rin might see that as something recreational. I wanted the scene to come across as sweet, like he's inviting Haru back into his life. I do not mean for it to be interpreted as bad or out of character for Rin.
Please, no comments about using a "girl song" or something. I did actually want to use a male cover, but none of them sounded right to me or had that mocking, double-sided, or angsty sound I wanted. I went with this one, and am glad for it. I also don't think songs sung by women should be limited to female characters.

Have I mentioned how much I love these two? This show? I was avoiding it for the longest time, no even trying too hard, and then Tasha posted her wonderful Harin/Rin video, and I gave in and watched the first episode and fell in love.
