Sizing HVAC equipment such as furnaces and air-conditioners based on rule-of-thumb methods can negatively impact costs, comfort and system performance. A “bigger is better” approach leads to grossly oversized systems, resulting in shorter equipment run times, and in some cases, for rooms far away from the furnace, a lack of heating. Applying the CSA F280-12 calculation standard leads to appropriately sized systems that optimize for cost and occupant comfort.
