While watching a compilation video of old automotive ads from the 1960s and 70s we came across one for the then new Ford Maverick that featured a group of Flight Attendants putting together a partially disassembled Maverick in an airport parking lot.
The message was, these cars are so simple that anyone can work on them anyplace.
Now contrast that with recent statements by Ford CEO Jim Farley on how there is a severe technician shortage because they can't find anyone who wants to work on their cars, and that while he's fine with "Right To Repair" he himself could not repair a new Ford at home without all kinds of special equipment and that attempting to do so could get someone killed.
It's the Automotive Boomer Wonderland of the past vs. the runaway technological nightmare that the modern vehicle has become.
And the ultimate loser is anyone who depends on affordable, repairable used vehicles for life's daily chores.
