In this video, I take a Waymo autonomous taxi on the freeway for the first time in Phoenix, Arizona. Waymo has been operating as a fully self-driving ride-hail service for years, but until now, freeway driving has been one of its biggest limitations.
For this test, we ride from the Phoenix Art Museum to the Chandler Museum, a 21-mile trip that previously took nearly an hour using surface streets only. This time, Waymo finally has freeway access, and we’re testing how it handles merging, lane changes, highway speeds, and overall ride comfort.
