On my way home from Dayton Hamvention, I visited the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania on Monday, May 18, 2026, for several reasons. I remember Tuesday, September 11, 2001 very well. I remember where I was, what I was doing, who was around me and how I felt watching everything transpire. As I was passing near by, I wanted to take advantage of this opportunity and stop here to visit the location because of memories of that fateful day, to activate the Parks On The Air (POTA) entity, and to show others how to handle such a sensitive location. I remember seeing a post of the POTA Facebook group asking how to activate there. I didn’t understand how the answer wasn’t obvious. Activating here was a humbling experience that demanded the utmost respect for this sacred ground. I faced significant RFI issues from nearby RVs and buses during this outing, but I pushed through the noise to secure the necessary contacts for irrefutable evidence of the activation.
