Lithium-ion batteries do a fantastic job in all sorts of applications today, but they contain materials that can be problematic from an environmental point of view. Now a research team in Sweden has perfected an energy storage device in which the electrons are produced by a previously unwanted waste wood material from the paper milling industry. Safe, abundant and environmentally friendly. Could we be solving several problems at once here?
