Released in May 1999, the ninth album from Oklamona's most notable Neo-psych rockers The Flaming Lips saw them taking a staggering step forward.. Gone were the scuzzy lo-fi sounds and the garage aesthetic, in their place a sumptuous feast of orchestral pop, classic heavy rock, and dreamy electronica. In this video I plunge deep into the grooves of this remarkable landmark of nineties music, along the way telling the story of a cathartic Lips gig I attended in the closing months of that momentous decade.
