Released in 1982, 'The Rise & Fall' was the fourth album by Camden's original 'nutty boys' Madness. But apart from the eternally jolly hit single 'Our House', the record was a rather downbeat affair, originally conceived as a concept album about the band members' childhoods. Several decades later, the record has become a strangely poignant , Kinksian snapshot of early eighties Britain in all its dour splendour.
