The ESV Study Bible, on Ps 2.8: "The primary messianic picture of the OT is of the heir of David who will lead his people in bringing the light to the nations, by making them his subjects; this is how the nations of the earth will find blessing for themselves in him (see Gen. 22:18; see also Ps. 72:8–11, 17); thus Paul looks forward to the obedience of faith among all the nations (Rom. 1:5)."
TDNT on Isa 60: "The pilgrimage of the kings of the earth to the New Jerusalem presupposes the existence of the nations of the world and their rulers as well as the location of the eschatological Jerusalem on the earth."
Matt 3:2, The New Jerome Bible Commentary notes that "the proclamation of the near arrival of God’s Kingdom is the central message of Jesus, and along with the resurrection the basis and object of Christian HOPE. Derived from the night vision of Daniel (7:13-14) the Kingdom represents the future, final salvation of all humanity socially, politically, and spiritually, through an exercise of the sovereignty of God establishing justice and peace on earth as well as in heaven (6:33; Rom. 14:17). Thus, for Christians the kingdom HOPE includes faith in Christ [and] we have a foretaste of the Kingdom. The Kingdom is also to be the content of the disciples’ preaching: [At first for the lost sheep of Israel in Mat 10.7] “Herald and say the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.” [And then for all the nations to the end of the age, Mat 28:19-20.] All of the rewards (in Matt. 5) will find their realization in the Kingdom."
