Following the rise of the Antichrist, John receives a parenthetical vision laying out major events during the last half of the seven-year judgment of Earth called the Tribulation. Because the Antichrist requires a mark on the forehead or right hand of every person in the world, John opens the 14th chapter with a contrasting view - showing 144,000 Jewish believers with God's mark in their foreheads:
"And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God" (Revelation 14:1-5)
These are the Jewish remnant sealed in chapter 7. Sometime during the last half of the Tribulation period, just prior to God pouring out the vials of wrath, they are seen in Heaven. They stand with Christ before God's throne, in the presence of the four living creatures and the 24 elders. How they got their is not clear. Either they died at the hands of the Antichrist, or they were caught up alive when their work was done. In chapter 15, we shall learn that the Tribulation converts, a countless multitude from all nations, will be there as well. Both of these groups are listed in Revelation 7 and appear in glory sometime after the Antichrist takes over the world. The 144,000 are specifically those who have the "Father's name written in their foreheads (verse 1). Though the Textus Receptus does not include the Lamb's name in verse 1, the NU Greek text does. We are told that the 144,000 have both the Father's name and the Lamb's name.
"And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters" (Revelation 14:6-7).
After the 144,000 and their converts are gone, even as the hour of his judgment commences, God sends an angel to preach the gospel of eternal salvation through receiving Christ to earth dwellers. The fact that the preacher is an angel tells us that there are no ministers on Earth. The dispensation of the church age is over and the present and current church is gone and has been taken off the earth into Heaven years prior to the beginning of the Tribulation. It is the whole reason that there are even the 144,000 Jewish believers preaching the gospel to begin with. The current body of believers on earth have already been taken into Heaven via the rapture. However, at this point in the Tribulation after the 144,000 are converts are gone, there is still an opportunity to repent and believe in order to be spared eternal damnation. The prophet Joel indicates in chapter 2 of the book of Joel that people can still be saved in the darkest hour of the Tribulation.
Angels were used in the Old Testament to preach to men and will again assist God in bringing about the conclusion of this dispensation. But during the current dispensation called grace, it is the duty of men to proclaim the gospel message of eternal salvation through personally receiving Christ as one's personal savior. God has chosen us, the body of "born again" believers known as the church, to win people and bring them to repentance of unbelief and turn them to belief in the gospel message of salvation through Christ. It is a warning of Christ that one must be "born again" to enter Heaven. We cannot depend upon a heavenly vision to bring our families and other loved ones to a saving knowledge of Christ. If we don't win them, they may not be saved. God uses our testimony to reach the lost. Only when we are gone via the rapture will the Lord again call upon angels to finish the work, as we see being done by the time Revelation 14 occurs.
