The first video in the series 'Rethinking Return Migration - Policies, Realities, and Gaps' introduces the concept of return migration and the different terminology used in policy and public discourse in Europe.
Researchers from the Horizon Europe Research Programme GAPs (2023 - 2026) unpack the spectrum from voluntary returns to forced deportations and shine a light on the challenges in the implementation of the EU's return policies. A lack of cooperation agreements between the EU and countries of origin often hinders efforts to carry out return orders, despite the increase in assistance offered by the EU in recent years to facilitate voluntary returns.
