Here we are leaving Ischia and heading back over to Naples to catch our cruise Ship Harmony of the Seas.
We had been over to Ischia to the Poseidon thermal baths/gardens. The ferry trip takes around an hour. Do not sit below deck. It is stuffy and claustrophobic. If possible sit in the open air deck and enjoy the scenery and cool breeze.
Ischia is a volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea. It lies at the northern end of the Gulf of Naples, about 30 kilometres (19 miles) from the city of Naples. It is the largest of the Phlegrean Islands. Although inhabited since the Bronze Age, as a Greek emporium it was founded in the 8th or 9th century BC.
Leaving Ischia port you immediately pass by on the right the very imposing 15th century Aragonese Castle perched high on a rocky cliff. Further along you pass the island of Procida. In the distance lies the famous Isle of Capri, home to Gracie Fields. She is buried on the island.
Then it is a trip across the gulf of Naples back to port.
