This video features Luke Rethwisch presenting his custom-built 1976 Peterbilt 352H cabover, nicknamed "High Rise Suite," at the 2026 Mid America Truck Show. The build was a labor-intensive project focused on maintaining an old-school factory aesthetic while incorporating modern mechanical upgrades.
Key highlights of the build include:
Powerplant: The truck is equipped with a rare 3408 Caterpillar V8 engine (2:14), rebuilt by PDI and painted white to match the original factory specifications. The engine installation was notoriously tight, requiring a creative approach to motor mounts and shifting linkages (3:40).
Exterior & Design: The truck features the original factory striping and colors, enhanced with a "legendary" metallic finish for better sun reflection (4:44). It sits on a longer 2025 Kenworth T680 frame to provide a better wheelbase (6:03), complemented by stainless full fenders and classic 24.5-inch wheels (7:11).
Interior: The cabin preserves the original wood grain dash and features a retro interior with oxblood red upholstery, gold stitching, and original-style fans (1:10).
Functionality: Unlike many show trucks, this is a working vehicle (14:48). It lacks a rear deck plate to allow for easier roadside repairs, and it uses factory-style rubber hoses rather than braided steel lines to stay true to the era (6:44).
Construction & Challenges:
The build was completed under an incredibly tight timeline. Two weeks before the show, the truck lacked its motor, fuel tanks, and doors (11:51). Luke and his team worked non-stop—including a late-night drive to fetch the engine—to finish the truck just in time for the show (12:21). Despite the rushed timeline, the truck performed well enough to be driven to the event (13:30).
