A Billion Oysters field stations program manager Tanasia Swift joins the 2022 College of the Atlantic Summer Institute: Our One and Only Ocean.
Swift's love for the remote green & vast blue in and among her concrete jungle started before she even made it to The New York Harbor School. Since graduating, she’s kept her promise of change through action and now leads efforts to install oyster reefs throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Legend has it that she once knitted an entire oyster reef before permits arrived for an actual install.
The Billion Oyster Project aims to restore 100 million oysters to New York Harbor. They are currently piloting oyster setting processes that will allow the project to scale to 25 million oysters per field season by 2024.
