I am restoring a wheelwrights wooden Jarvis plane, which is a bit like a spokeshave but with a very long sole. They were used for smoothing the spokes of cartwheels. I am cleaning up the plane body with methylated spirit and boiled linseed oil, and I set to work sharpening the incannel blade with diamond stones and leather strops. You can see me using the plane in the final part of this film. I will use the plane for smoothing chair legs and tool handles etc.
