In this fireside chat, Prof. Lippman will discuss with Dr. Quiñonero-Candela the lessons he learned from 15 years building and deploying AI at massive scale, first at Microsoft and then at Facebook. The discussion will focus on some of the risks and difficult ethical tradeoffs that emerge as AI gains in power and pervasiveness.

$Low-latency tracking of multiple permanent magnets Sometimes you want to be able to see things that arent visible. There are various methods for tracking otherwise invisible objects, such as x-ray, ultrasound, and radar. Most of these techniques can only track objects with a long time delay (from a large fraction of a second to more than a minute) or using a bulky device (making it difficult to carry around). In the 1950s, however, a new tracking technology was invented—one using magnets. Conveniently, magnetic fields are not affected by materials such as wood, plastic, rubber, or the human body, so objects with magnets attached can be tracked through any of these materials. In the Biomechatronics group at the Media Lab, we recently developed an improved method of tracking magnets, which extends magnet tracking technology to new high-speed applications.
