I have a different perspective on buying foreign made katana. In this context meaning, Katana made outside of Japan. While my opinions differ, I respect his thoughts and value his perspective. He makes content I enjoy and hope that this video is not perceived as anything other that respectful conversation about a mutually enjoyed topic.
1. Where I live they happen to be legal to own.
2. The are accessible. I mean this both in price and availability. Base price on functional swords can be as low as $50, $300 getting you a decent sword. They are also often available domestically or with a very short wait.
3. I believe foreign made swords can be superior in performance to Japanese made swords. Meaning edge retention and or shock resistance. The ability of the sword to hold its edge over use and ability to take abuse.
I am not arguing they are always better but it does depend on how you define better. Modern homogeneous steels have a leg up when it comes to performance.
I think there are other arguments that a person could make for forign katana but these are the bits I can fit into 60 seconds.
