TechteamGB | Response Times Explained in 60 Seconds @TechteamGB | Uploaded 1 year ago | Updated 1 day ago
Your monitor is made up of millions of tiny electronically controller shutters - theyre called pixels (and subpixels). Theyre made of crystals suspended in liquid - hence LCD meaning liquid crystal display - and when you apply a voltage to them, they change how theyre arranged. The more closed the shutters, the less light gets through. Open them more and you get more light. Split them up into three and put colour filters on top and hey presto youve got millions of colour combinations. A response time essentially measures how quickly those crystals can move. The faster they move, the sharper and more responsive your monitor will look. For gaming, getting a fast response time is really important as otherwise youll get whats called ghosting - where previous frames dont disappear fast enough so you see multiple copies of moving objects on screen at the same time. Thats no good!
