The Two Resist pieces on the album (and garner what you will from the years they are written in) stray heavily from the idea of a soothing song for an infant, and are meant to represent both the iniquities that present themselves in this world, and also the hope + defiance that they beget. Resist II:Backtalk is a “sequel” to the first piece from 10 years earlier. The correlating video depicts a person being fitfully woken from peaceful slumber, being shaken up and stunned by their condition, then slowly mustering the will to rise, arm themselves with knowledge and Resist - through the power of song.
