We came SO damn close.
After Barbarian and Weapons, Zach Cregger takes on one of our favorite video game franchises with Resident Evil (2026), starring Austin Abrams as Bryan, a medical courier whose trip to Raccoon City turns into a fight for survival.
And here's the thing: we really liked this movie.
For the first time in a long time, it feels like a filmmaker understands the survival-horror experience that makes Resident Evil special. It's bloody, funny, intense, weird, and absolutely feels inspired by the games, even though Cregger tells an original story instead of directly adapting one of them.
But as lifelong Resident Evil fans, there were still a few things keeping us from saying, “THIS is the definitive Resident Evil movie.”
So how close did Zach Cregger finally come to cracking the code? What worked? What didn't? And after decades of Resident Evil adaptations, is this finally the movie fans have been waiting for?
