Resident Evil 4 is a 2005 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom for the GameCube. Players control the special agent Leon S. Kennedy on a mission to rescue the president of the United States's daughter, Ashley Graham, who has been abducted by a religious cult in rural Spain. Leon fights hordes of enemies infected by a mind-controlling parasite and reunites with the female spy and mercenary Ada Wong. In a departure from the fixed camera angles and slower gameplay of previous Resident Evil games, Resident Evil 4 features a dynamic camera system and action-horror oriented gameplay.
Development began for the PlayStation 2 in 1999. Four proposed versions were discarded; the first was directed by Hideki Kamiya, but the series creator, Shinji Mikami, felt it was too great a departure, so it was spun off as Devil May Cry (2001). Other versions were scrapped until Mikami took over as the director. Resident Evil 4 was announced as part of the Capcom Five, a collaboration between Capcom and Nintendo to create five exclusives for the GameCube.
Resident Evil 4 garnered acclaim for its story, gameplay, graphics, voice acting, and characters. It is cited as one of the best video games, winning multiple Game of the Year awards. It was ported to numerous formats, and became a multi-platform hit, selling 15.2 million copies by March 2025. It influenced the evolution of the survival horror and third-person genres, popularizing the "over-the-shoulder" third-person view used in games such as Gears of War, Dead Space, and The Last of Us. Resident Evil 5 was released in 2009 and a remake of Resident Evil 4 was released in 2023.

➤ ABOUT THE GAME
FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft is tasked to investigate the mysterious deaths of Raccoon City survivors due to some form of late onset T-Virus infection. Her superiors assign her to inspect the site of the latest death in the long abandoned Wrenwood Hotel, where her mother Alyssa was killed eight years prior. Upon arriving at the hotel, Grace comes across evidence that somebody had been stalking her for years. She recovers a data disk left behind by her mother prior to her death, before she is attacked and abducted by ex-Umbrella scientist Victor Gideon. Meanwhile, DSO agents Leon Kennedy and Sherry Birkin are also investigating the string of deaths, as they too are exhibiting symptoms. Leon is directed to investigate the Wrenwood Hotel, and arrives just in time to see Gideon kidnapping Grace. Gideon manages to escape by causing a small T-Virus outbreak as a distraction, but Sherry is able to track him to his clinic, the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center.

➤ ABOUT THE GAME
On July 23, 1998, a train owned by the pharmaceutical company Umbrella, the Ecliptic Express, comes under attack from a swarm of leeches. As the passengers and crew are attacked, a mysterious young man watches from a hillside. Two hours later, the Bravo Team of the Special Tactics And Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.), a tactical unit of Raccoon City Police Departments (R.P.D.), is sent to investigate a series of cannibalistic murders in the Arklay Mountains outside of Raccoon City. On the way to the scene, its helicopter has an engine failure and crash-lands in a forest. Searching the area, officer Rebecca Chambers of Bravo Team comes across the Express, now motionless. She begins to investigate the scene, only to find the passengers and crew transformed into zombies. She is unaware their transformation is a result of exposure to Umbrellas T-virus contained within the leeches. As she explores the train, she teams up with Billy Coen—a former Marine Force Reconnaissance officer, who was to be executed for killing 23 people until the military police van transporting him crashed in the region.
