Taken from the Tired Voice EP - out now on Poker Flat Recordings: PokerFlat.lnk.to/TiredVoice

Poker Flat Recordings drops three new heaters from Reset Robot - the alter ego of UK producer, engineer and DJ Dave Robertson. The Portsmouth-based artist has thrilled some of the world's biggest clubs, and released on the hugely influential Drumcode, Mobilee, Hotflush and his own Whistleblower Records. His new EP Tired Voice dials into his signature brooding sound, but also finds some new unexplored nuances. “The title track was written after I got my Moog Matriarch. The main synth line and bass were both done on that and I love how they sound. It can be quite inspiring when you get your hands on a fresh piece of kit in the studio”, says Dave. Elsewhere, Jinx was inspired by explorations on a Novation controller, hooking it up to Reason to prodice a deep bomb that bubbles and boils with energy. Meig is an atmospheric burner with a strong emotional undercurrent, built around the SEM VST from Arturia.

There have been few record labels that have made such an indelible mark on the landscape of electronic music as Poker Flat. Founded by Steve Bug in 1999, the label coined a sound and style that dominated club culture for years. Glitchy, mechanised beats paired with moody pads and sinister chords would take hold of the club scene in the mid 00s, but Poker Flat championed these stripped-back sounds well ahead of the pack.
With a back catalogue that includes more than 300 releases, it’s no surprise that many of these remain club staples to this day. Many artists now recognised as household names got their first break with Poker Flat, and the label prides itself on discovering and championing the next wave of artists.
Key to Poker Flat’s success has been their refusal to chase after trends, instead remaining focussed on the sound with which they established themselves. Their aim for the future is to continue to keep putting out exceptional electronic music from exceptional artists.
