Part two of field work sampled boulders for age dating and an auger core across the fault zone! It's glacial history and earthquake history on this installment of TERRA INCOGNITO.

This last installment of field work took place in August of 2022 and was focused on taking action on the reconnaissance done on the first week (Part 1). We sampled over 400 pounds of boulders to study how long they've been exposed - a proxy for determining the age of a glacial feature - and backpacked them out of the wilderness. That was a lot of work! We also dug a transect of auger cores across the fault zone of the Strawberry Fault which enabled me to determine an approximate earthquake history for the fault! We found evidence of two earthquakes and collected a bunch of ancient charcoal to 14-C date and determine the ages of those earthquakes.
