To keep the slim profile of the Edge as well as to minimise fan-motor and air noise, we're researching new fans that can achieve both high air flow and low noise.
In this video, comparison is made between ambient noise, fan on at 100% duty, 50% duty, and with the DIY case cover on and off respectively.
Our conclusions are that the fan has negligible motor noise, however the air noise is amplified by the DIY case, due to turbulent air flow.
We will be designing a new casing for our Edge series of products, that will maximise laminar (smooth) air flow, as well as minimise air flow noise. As far as we can hear, fan-motor noise is negligible.
