In the wake of Louisiana v. Callais, Republicans are moving to eliminate at least half a dozen majority-Black districts in the Deep South between now and 2028.
That would trigger the largest drop in Black representation since the end of Reconstruction.
While their attempts to erase Black representation have recently hit roadblocks in Alabama and South Carolina, that shouldn’t distract from the damage the Supreme Court’s decision has already done to multiracial democracy.
