The Australian Institute of International Affairs of WA, in partnership with the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA), is honoured to be hosting one of Australia's most distinguished former diplomats and leading foreign policy thinkers, Peter Varghese AO FAIIA for a public lecture in Perth on 4 November 2025.

In a speech titled "Repositioning Australian Foreign Policy" Peter Varghese will discuss how Australia faces a bonfire of certainties in its external environment. What does this mean for the three traditional pillars of Australian foreign policy: the US alliance, the region and multilateralism? How does Australia reposition itself in a very different world.

This is a rare opportunity to hear the expert analysis and insights of the former Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Director General of the Office of National Assessments; Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister; and High Commissioner to India and Malaysia.

AIIA WA acknowledges the ongoing of support of the Forrest Research Foundation; and the assistance of the Australian Institute of Marine Science for this event.
