I've know that K&N filters are great filters that last a lifetime but didn't pick one up until today. Sort of silly that I haven't done it until now.
The K&N filter cost me about $47 and doesn't need replaced. The K&N filter needs cleaned at about 50,000 miles and a Filter Care Service Kit costs about $14 from K&N. A throwaway filter cost a little under $20 and it's suggested to replace it at about 12,000 miles (according to the box I was looking at in the auto parts store).
So if you do the math... at 48,000 miles I would have spent about $80 on throwaway filters and be buying another $20 filter for a total of about $100. At 50,000 miles with a K&N filter I'll have spent $47 for the filter and cleaning it using a $14 kit for a total of about $61 and be good for another 50,000 miles.
The K&N filter is just as easy to put in place as a regular throwaway so if you can replace a regular one you can install on of these in the same amount of time.
K&N also sells complete air intake replacement kits that increase horsepower and acceleration even more. Those are pretty neat but for my truck cost in the $270 to $350 price range.
