If I were doing this again, I'd SKIP cutting off the old ball valve and drilling. Instead, I’d Dremel off the PEX sleeves, then use the lighter trick to pull the old ball valve out from both ends of the PEX tubing. I'm working with 1/2" PEX tubing and fittings in this video.
