climatebrad | Rep. David Scott Plugs For Keystone XL, Gets Told Off @climatebrad | Uploaded March 2022 | Updated October 2024, 22 hours ago.
3/8/22: Rep. David Scott (D-GA), as the House Agriculture Chair one of the most powerful members of Congress, went on a semi-incoherent rant at a Financial Services hearing on inflation to claim that Russia's invasion of Ukraine means we need to build the Keystone XL pipeline, which would have transported Canadian tar sands oil to the Gulf Coast for export. Scott seemed unaware of that fact as he equated construction of the climate-destroying tar-sands pipeline with increasing domestic oil production. He was gently corrected by witness Mark Zandi, who pointed out that U.S. oil production already matches or exceeds current consumption.
