"All I had to do was, you know, be born."

Rene Matić returns to their hometown of Peterborough, telling us about their "obsession with understanding Britishness - or not understanding it".

Matić works primarily with photography as well as sculpture, textiles, sound and other mediums. Their artwork questions identity, society and how we find a sense of belonging. They are nominated for the Turner Prize 2025 for their solo exhibition AS OPPOSED TO THE TRUTH at CCA Berlin.

See the Turner Prize exhibition on display at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery in Bradford until 22 February 2026. The winner of the Turner Prize 2025 will be announced on 9 December.
