Day 65. Sometimes removing something and then adding it back is more impactful than adding more. In verse 2, after the chorus, you could have the bass and kick drop out while the drummer keeps a pocket groove on hat and snare. When bass and kick return halfway through the verse or at the next section, it’s like a shift from black-and-white to full color. Removing layers can make adding them back more interesting (f an example, check out my band Noah Guthrie and Good Trouble’s song Survivors on the outro).
