Vietnam’s capital is preparing for one of the biggest urban overhauls in its history.

Hanoi plans to spend up to $2.5 trillion over the next two decades, building new bridges, metro lines and highways as Vietnam pushes toward developed-nation status by 2045.

But for many in the city, the transition comes with some anxiety. While officials say the goal is to transform Hanoi into a more connected, modern megacity, some are caught between excitement for the city's future and concern over what comes next.
