Chimata was supposed to start fading away close to the end of the song, because gods die without faith or worship to support them, and with Megumu being the one who saved her from the brink of death turning on her at the last minute, she has no one to justify her existence. As a result, Reimu was supposed to shift gears and save her from fate, with her reasoning being "Gensokyo accepts all, even the ones who are the most forgotten."

It ultimately turned out okay even without this, because it wasn't part of the original story, but it's actually one of the reasons the song sounds so desperate. Plus I wanna show people that Reimu's super nice in canon. ;v;
