New album Feb 13. Single drops Jan 30.
This album’s been a long time coming.
A few years back, Charles Ruggiero and I were on a gig, and he asked if I’d checked out much Eddie Harris. (I guess something I played reminded him of Eddie.)
My answer was yes—and when I told him the story of how I was first introduced to Eddie’s music, we started cooking up the idea for an album inspired by some of my favorite Eddie Harris grooves.
The title Eddie Told Me So popped into my head and became the compass for everything that followed.
Each tune on this record has an Eddie Harris counterpart—songs he wrote, played, or covered in a way that changed how I hear groove, form, and attitude.
I didn’t want to make a tribute album. I wanted to use Eddie’s music as a jumping-off point to create new music in that spirit.
Plenty more to say. I’m looking forward to telling you about each song on this record and the Eddie tunes they relate to. The liner notes go deep—and yes, there will be vinyl and physical CDs.
First single drops next week.
