One year ago, Israel lived through the worst carnage the country had seen in its modern history. On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a surprise attack from Gaza that killed about 1,200 people: a shock for the country as a whole. We spoke to Maya Roman, whose cousin Yarden Roman-Gat was taken hostage on October 7 by Hamas and later released. Her sister-in-law, Carmel Gat, was also taken captive and found dead in Gaza in August.
