In this video, I explore several possible signs of autism in adults. These include distress when interrupted, difficulty switching tasks, needing objects to remain in their correct place, food texture sensitivities, sensory overload, communication differences, and strong emotional attachments.

As an autistic person with ADHD, I often rely on routine, predictability, and sameness to feel calm. An unexpected interruption can make returning to a task feel almost impossible. A moved household item might stay in my thoughts until I put it back. Even a small change to the texture, temperature, presentation, or preparation of food can make it unbearable.

I also explain how sensory processing differences affect responses to sounds, smells, lighting, touch, and temperature. A quiet sound that nobody else notices might become impossible for me to ignore.
Autistic communication can also be misunderstood. My facial expressions, messages, tone, or reactions do not always communicate what I intended. Other people might incorrectly think I am being sarcastic, negative, insincere, or overly dramatic.

Relating to these autistic traits does not automatically mean you are autistic. Autism is a spectrum, and every autistic person experiences it differently. If these experiences regularly affect your life, record some examples and consider discussing them with a qualified autism professional.
