Regicide #1 is a dark fantasy comic that is unlike most of what I’m reading right now.

Written by Patrick Kindlon with art by Ludovic Lalliat, the series follows a farmhand who is ordered by his village elders to travel to the capital alongside a dangerous stranger. Their mission? Kill the murderous Viceroy of Transylvania.

Described as Dracula meets Berserk, Regicide is a violent, strange, gothic fantasy filled with betrayal, bizarre characters, and a world that feels like a twisted fairy tale.

In this spoiler-free review, I talk about the strange premise, gothic artwork, extreme violence, peculiar world-building, and why this isn’t necessarily my usual kind of comic — but still managed to intrigue me.

I may ultimately enjoy this more as a collected story, but after reading #1, I definitely want to see where it goes.
