Mistakes were made, again and again. Here I address Parts 2 and 3 of the Tirade, where I talked about Lucy, Erza, and several other topics in much bad faith.
Addendum: Regarding the mythological context of dragon beats dragon, I don't know if that's real. I convinced myself of it through the other examples in Pokemon and Monster Hunter but haven't found full sources for it aside from assumption (IE that if dragons are godlike beings in myth [which they are] that they cannot easily be defeated, but most of the stuff I found talks about how they're symbols of good luck, and thus you wouldn't want to defeat one). They're also used to represent the state/government, so one can read dragon vs dragon as country vs country (IE war, with the hypothetical tiger being a civil rebellious force), but where it directly spawns from I have no idea. For sure it's still very much a 'fight fire with fire' thing so the old point is still very much wrong even if the new point here isn't wholly correct. I don't expect Pokemon to be the first to have used it, but I'm also not capable of looking things up in Japanese to find out where it did come from (one article on dragon symbolism on Academia.edu was entirely in Japanese). Apologies for the misunderstanding on my part.
