I always say that Islands is a song about separation - moving away from someone that you need to stay away from. It's the push and the pull - the feeling of intense magnetism you have towards a significant person despite them being terrible for you. I've spoken to a few people who have put this on repeat after going through a breakup as an aftermath of really long relationships. I am happy that this song could give a bit of reprieve.
Relationships, no matter how much time it lasted, are always difficult to close and comprehend. I think that writing Islands is my own way of acknowledging my weakness, but claiming my victory in the end. "Bye to the earth that we have claimed, oh the ocean is calling my name."
This video is a dream come true. Up to the very last minute, we were sitting in front of my computer, editing colors and cuts until we got everything down. So many talented hands and brains worked on this and I couldn't be any more pleased and thankful for what we came up with. This video won't be what it is without these incredible people backing me up.
