Video Description:
We start with the Aquaforest sand. I've never used their sand before, and it's done a bit differently than the Arag-Alive from CaribSea. The AF sand is shipped dry, and then you have to pour in two small bottles of bacteria into the bag with some saltwater, and let it sit overnight. Not a big deal, but I went ahead and just skipped this step and put the sand directly in the tank after rinsing it out. I used Brightwell Microbacter Start XLM as my bacterial supplement.
Then we build a boring aquascape. Just a simple stacked rock scape, about 9" tall, covering the entirety of the tank. I use two types of live rock. The pinkish colored Aquaforest rock, and the CaribSea Life Rock. Lots of swim throughs and tons of places for anemones to settle.
The thing about this scape is it is all about making homes for anemones and clownfish. So I did it totally different than any of my other aquascapes. Just wait and see. It will probably end up being my favorite aquascape of all time!
I did use a tiny bit of super glue and epoxy on a couple pieces, but that was just to give some flat rocks "feet" to lift them off the sandbed.
Then we mix up the Aquaforest Reef Salt, use Dr. Tim's ammonia chloride and Brightwell's Start XLM, and the tank is cycling.
There were a couple leaks where the threaded hard plumbing screwed into the bulkheads, so I had to remove the pipes and add a ton more plumbers tape. It seems to have worked.
Then we finally get to the five automatic feeders. Since I will be feeding the clownfish harem 4x daily, I figured it was time to invest in some automatic feeders. Marine Depot was kind enough to send me their entire lineup, and I bought a couple more from Amazon as well.
The trick with having a successful clownfish harem tank lies in three factors (according to my research)
- Space
- Feeding
- Habitat
So I'm doing my best to make that happen, even though the tank is about 30 gallons smaller than recommended!
Will it work? Only time will tell!
