Reducing methane emissions is one of the most powerful ways we can slow climate change in the near term. At Carleton University’s Energy and Emissions Research Lab, Professor Matthew Johnson and his team of graduate and undergraduate students are working to measure and mitigate methane and air pollutant emissions produced by the global oil and gas sector.

By combining lab-based innovations with field-deployed technologies, his team is delivering actionable data to help governments and industry make evidence-based decisions on environmental policy and regulation.

With major partnerships across government agencies, industry leaders, and international collaborators, this research is directly supporting Canadian and global efforts to reduce emissions and accelerate progress toward net-zero.
