Red-sided Garter Snakes, Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis, are some of the best pet snakes in my opinion. They tend to be more docile and inquisitive than many other garter snakes, and have beautiful colors. They are not to be confused with California red-sided garter snakes, which are the same species, but a different subspecies.
