Menstrual products for free? That’s a reality in many Swedish schools.
Sanitary dispensers with free tampons and pads are being installed in an increasing number of school toilets across Sweden, with schools paying for the setup.
One of the providers is RedLocker, which actually began as a school project in 2018. That’s when high school students Clara Lidman and Liza Eriksson developed their distinctly red dispenser, which laid the foundation of the company.
With a norm-breaking mission to make menstrual care as accessible and obvious as toilet paper, RedLocker has made a mark both in Sweden and abroad.
RedLocker dispensers can be found in more than 75 per cent of all of Sweden’s high schools today, as well as in numerous sports clubs, cinemas and offices around the country.
Altogether, Nordic and other European countries have installed RedLocker dispensers in nearly 6,000 spots, the company estimates.
