In 1988 when the Prototype Super Famicom was previewed, Nintendo also showed a redesigned Famicom Known at the time as the 'Famicom Adaptor.'

A strange concept as the Famicom needed to be connected to the SFC through the A/V inputs in order for the SFC to play Famicom games, hence the name 'Adaptor.' On the SFC there is a button labelled Famicom; (middle button) which enables the SFC to play Famicom games.

One cool feature is that the SFC Controller could be used on the Famicom.
