Examples of abuse in media have evolved over time from the established stereotype of a drunken, greased shirt wearing man in 'A Streetcar Named Desire' to an extension of various forms of abusive behaviors that are experienced in real life shown in Big Little Lies.
Backstory:
The archetype is very quickly problematic if not handled with care. Abusive forms are getting representation, but there needs to be more representation that is "just psychological" as well. Representation of emotional abuse would help answer the question "if he's not hitting me, is it abuse?" The answer can and is definitely going to be yes. We need to represent all types of abuse in media to spread awareness of all forms that exist in our society.
