Set within the rural landscape of El Arenal, north of Guadalajara, Mexico, and near the La Primavera forest reserve, Campus Betterware Guadalajara (CBG) is a workplace and distribution center designed by Estudio MMX in collaboration with Luis Campos, with landscape design by Hugo Sánchez. With 50,000 m² of built area and 25,000 m² of outdoor spaces, the project rethinks the conventional industrial campus by bringing logistics, administrative spaces, worker amenities, architecture, and landscape into a single environment.
The campus is organized around horizontality and continuity, essential to the operation of a large distribution center. A series of warehouses, administrative areas, and operational buildings are connected by covered pathways and gardens, while staggered concrete retaining walls negotiate the site's changing levels and incorporate hanging landscapes. Concrete and red-toned steel define the structural language, with generous volumes, exposed elements, and natural light giving architectural character to spaces typically driven primarily by efficiency.
Landscape is fundamental to the experience of CBG. Drawing from the surrounding vegetation, the gardens create different microclimates and establish a constant relationship between interior and exterior spaces. Dry riverbeds collect and redirect rainwater into the landscape, while passive ventilation, natural lighting, solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and an on-site water treatment system integrate environmental performance into the architecture itself.
Beyond its industrial function, CBG was conceived around the people who use it. Operational, administrative, and management teams share the same campus, alongside amenities ranging from a cafeteria and gym to a nursery, creating a workplace in which efficiency and quality of everyday experience are treated with equal importance. The project was named Workplace Project of the Year 2023.
In this film, we take a poetic and cinematic journey through Campus Betterware Guadalajara, accompanied by interviews with the architects behind the project and landscape designer Hugo Sánchez. Moving between its vast industrial structures, covered passages, gardens, changing levels, and open spaces, they reveal the ideas and decisions behind a campus where architecture and landscape work together to transform a highly functional building typology into a more human-centered environment—one where work, nature, infrastructure, and everyday life become part of the same experience.
