Today the Food and Drug Administration announced that it’s banning the use of Red No. 3.
Comment "no junK and I'll send some goodness your way.
Insane that it’s taken this long to get this dye, made from petroleum, out of our food.
We knew in the 80s that Red No. 3 was a carcinogen. And it was banned from cosmetics in 1990. But we’ve been dying our cookies with it and feeding it to our kids all along.
Sadly, today’s announcement, as exciting as it is, doesn’t change much.
At least for 2-3 years.
Food manufacturers have until Jan. 15, 2027, to reformulate their products.
Interesting enough, dyed drugs (think dietary supplements) get an additional year.
So for 3 more years, we’ll still be fed this carcinogenic food dye OR we can take control of our broken food system and start doing more things ourself.
Also, Red No. 3 is just the beginning. There are 36 FDA-approved color additives, 9 of which are synthetic dyes.
If you know the food system is broken, if you know it’s up to you to make the changes for your family, not wait on the FDA to do the right thing, follow along.
I’ve been slowly ditching processed food and toxic products for a decade and I share how I did it, right here.
Ditch the dyes and use pretty botanicals and adaptogens.
Ditch dead store-bought flour and mill your own.
Ditch snacks and staples and make your own granola bars and hot chocolate mix.
Comment “no junk” and I’ll send you 3 great places to start:
-My DIY Coke recipe
-My Larabar copycat recipe
-My fresh flour dinner roll recipe
And share this with all your friends who care about eliminating the junk dyes. There’s definitely a better way.
